Why I Don’t Want “Perfect” — I Want Personality

How I capture real connection and genuine smiles that will capture your heart forever.

Westchester County. NY Photographer

If you’ve ever scrolled through Pinterest searching for “perfect family photo inspiration,” this one’s for you. We all chase "perfect" photos. But what if I told you the photos that will hug your heart and give you all feels aren't perfect at all?

Because here’s the truth — I don’t want perfect. I want personality.

As a Westchester County Family Photographer, I’ve seen it all — the sibling side-eyes, the toddler belly laughs, the parent bribes (“one more smile and we’ll get ice cream!”), and the baby who suddenly decides nope, not today. And you know what? That’s the good stuff. That’s what makes your photos real, memorable, and completely you.

✨ Perfect Is Boring — Personality Is Beautiful

When families walk into my Port Chester photography studio or meet me in the park for their fall family photo session, they sometimes apologize before we even start:

“I’m so sorry, my kids are a little wild today.”

To which I always reply:

“Perfect! That’s exactly how I like them.”

Because real smiles happen in the in-between moments. The moments when your child cracks up mid-spin, when your baby smashes the cake a little too hard, or when your partner gives you that look that says we survived another photo session.

These are the moments that tell your family’s story. Not the perfectly posed smiles, but the personality-filled laughter, the chaos, the connection — the beautiful, honest energy that makes your family who you are.

I remember one holiday session where a couple’s two-year-old son screamed the entire time. And not just whining — I mean red face, tears streaming, drool flying… the full performance. Mom and Dad were mortified because they wanted that perfect Christmas card. I could see the panic setting in, so I said, “You know what? Let’s go with this. Let him have his moment — you two just look at me like ‘oh well!’ with your hands in the air.”

We rolled with it, and the photos turned out amazing. They ended up using the screaming ones for their card, and their friends loved it. Not because it was perfect — but because it was real. Every parent could relate, and years later, they still laugh about it. That’s the kind of memory you can’t pose. You can see this photo at the end of this page!

📸 What “Personality” Looks Like in Your Photos

When you book your family, newborn, or cake smash session with me, you’re not signing up for cookie-cutter images. You’re getting an experience that celebrates your story — your inside jokes, your quirks, your moments of calm and chaos.

  • For cake smashes, it’s frosting-covered hands, frosting-covered toes, and pure joy in between.
  • For newborn sessions, it’s sleepy snuggles, wrinkly fingers, and that soft, peaceful look only your baby has.
  • For family portraits, it’s tickle fights, running hugs, and the smiles that come after the laughter.

Those are the photos you’ll look back on years from now and feel something. Not just “we looked good,” but “that was us.”

💛 What Makes a Session With Me Different

Every session I photograph is filled with laughter, movement, and authenticity. You’ll hear me cracking jokes, playing peek-a-boo, dancing behind the camera, and letting your kids just be kids. Because that’s how we capture genuine smiles and natural expressions.

When you come visit me at my studio in Port Chester, or if we meet at local park, I create an environment where everyone can relax and have fun. There’s no pressure to pose perfectly — just a chance to connect, laugh, and let your personalities shine. Don’t get me wrong — we’ll get those classic posed shots, but you’ll be having too much fun to even realize you’re doing them. That’s the beauty of an authentic family photo session.

📷 Let’s Tell Your Story
